Michael, a native of Germany, received his BFA in 1993 in
Graphic Design and Visual Communications from the University of Design in
Düsseldorf, Germany. In order to gain exposure to real world business and
design needs, he began working for the advertising and design agency FCA! in
1991, while still enrolled in the university program. In 1992 he was sent to
the affiliate office in New York to support the creative department for 6 months.
In 1994 he relocated to New York and began working as Senior Art Director at Carla
Hall Design Group, NY, a small high-end design firm. There he developed and produced
communications in print and for the internet for a wide range of clients including
not-for-profit organizations such as Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Asia Society as well as Fortune 500 financial companies, architectural firms and
start-ups wishing to make a first powerful impression.
Since founding Designlounge, Inc. in August of 2002 he has used his creative energy to
invent fresh and smart design systems for the firm's clients. He has built long-term
client relationships that are based on mutual respect, a continuous dialogue, and a clear
understanding of his client's business goals.
Michael has been teaching design at Parsons School of Design, New York since 2004.
He is a member of the AIGA, NY (American Institute for the Graphic Arts), the "Center
for Book Arts, NY", and the "Arts Students League of New York", where he uses printmaking
as his creative outlet. He exhibited his prints as part of group shows throughout New
York City, and in Japan as part of a traveling show.
Kathryn is the other founding member of Designlounge. Before that she worked
in advertising and design agencies such as Bloom FCA! and Publicis, where she applied her
design sensibilities to great success.
Now at Designlounge she uses her talent for proportion, form and composition and a smart
"down to earth" approach to communications in print and on the web to develop powerful
design solutions.
Kathryn is also a figurative sculptor. Her artistic talent has been recognized in several
group shows throughout New York City. She maintains her own
sculpture studio in Brooklyn.
Kathryn is an active member of the "Art Students League of New York."
